ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION MODEL WITH COMPAsSION AND PLAY
Registration Summer School was a open access alternative education model come design school hosted at the Old Tidemill School. With 60 spaces open to design students and recent graduates. Aiming to tackle the fear that presents itself in most creatives minds when thinking about how to find work, how to present yourself, in an industry that's inherently taught as competetive.
Together with these tutor's we challenged the method and models of creative education and mixed it together with care, play, philosophy and experimentation. The tutor's who volunteered their time or in some cases, talks and movies were; Peter Nencini, Anthony Burrill, Design Displacement Group, Pau Sampera, Mark Kremmers, James Langdon, Ken Kirton, Julien Simshauser, Sebastien Zimmerhackl, and Edgar-Walker, R del, Jiro Bevis, and Metahaven.
Working collaboratively with Callum Copley, Andrew Thorpe and Myles Palmer we created everything the school needed from the brand identity, website, invites, poster campaign, the space, furniture, and signage. Not to mention organising enough tea, lunch and beer for 80 students and teachers over three days.
Registration Marks the naming of the design school came partly from a design/printing reference making something registration black or having registration marks on print files and partly as a reference to the school register. We hinted at this throughout the design. Even building it into the furniture. Tables and benches all worked off these simple strong registration tressels.
This was an independent project dreamt up and delivered by myself, Andrew Thorpe, Callum Copley and Myles Palmer. Huge thanks goes to all the support that came from the creative industry and the tutors/practicioners involved. We recieved volunteer support from students, and a small cash grant from Vinspired.
